Assignment 06: Final Project & Comprehensive Documentation
Overview
The capstone studio project of DDA500. Synthesize technical competencies, conceptual depth, and hybrid human-AI workflows developed throughout the semester to realize an ambitious, fully articulated creative work. The final project balances functional technical realization (40%), conceptual depth & aesthetics (30%), and comprehensive research documentation (30%).
Key Milestones
- Week 9: Proposal & Technical Specification: 1-page proposal outlining project concept, medium, model architecture, dataset plans, timeline, and fallbacks.
- Week 12: Working Alpha Prototype & Studio Review: Functional proof-of-concept tested in studio.
- Week 13β14: Studio Polish & Peer Testing: Iterative refinement, installation setup, or web deployment.
- Week 15: Final Presentation & Critique: Public exhibition, live performance, installation, or interactive presentation.
Objectives
- Substantive Articulation: Deliver a fully realized artwork, installation, tool, interactive experience, synthetic film, or sonic composition.
- Integrated Intelligence: Deliberately integrate AI/ML techniques (agentic orchestration, custom training/fine-tuning, real-time inference, or multimodal generative pipelines).
- Process Documentation Practice: Maintain a comprehensive process journal documenting prompt evolution, failure states, architecture schemas, and authorial decision trees.
- Public-Ready Contextualization: Situate the work within contemporary art, media theory, and ethical discourse.
Deliverables
- The Completed Creative Work: The finished artwork, application, or installation ready for public critique.
- Comprehensive Process Dossier: Technical architecture diagram, dataset provenance, prompt logs, and iterative code/workflow files.
- Critical Artist Statement (500β750 words): Framing the workβs conceptual inquiry, relationship to machine intelligence, and artistic intent.
- Final Presentation & Q&A: Formal 8β10 minute presentation in Week 15.
